    • TRANSITIONAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM [T.O.P.]
    • T.O.P. Mission Statement
T.O.P. provides faster college accessibility for new students who place into developmental courses and continuing students who have difficulty exiting the developmental or ESL sequences. It accomplishes this by offering no-cost, alternative programs to improve placement test scores, bring students to college-ready level, and save financial aid dollars for college credit courses.

      Why T.O.P.?

T.O.P. offers current students Enrichment Programs for all levels of ESL, Basic Reading/Basic Writing, Basic Mathematics, and Basic Algebra. The Summer Bridge Program and Accelerated Programs are offered to help high school and new students who place into Basic Reading/Basic Writing, Basic Mathematics, and Basic Algebra classes make the transition to college-level classes. At the end of the program, students are provided an opportunity to retake the level test, exit exams, or Accuplacer.

    • Program Offerings

      Summer Bridge Program

What is the Summer Bridge Program?
The Summer Bridge Program is a series of workshops spread over three weeks per subject during the summer, designed to give students who have initially placed into developmental courses the opportunity to improve critical learning skills.

      What does Summer Bridge offer?
The Summer Bridge Program provides faster college credit course accessibility for students who place into developmental courses. We offer a FREE, alternative program to improve students' placement test scores, bring them to college-ready level, and help them save their financial aid dollars for college credit courses.

      Why Summer Bridge?
Successful Bridge Program students retake the placement exams at the end of the program. The program offers students the opportunity to gain the skills they need to exit out of developmental courses or place higher in a developmental course sequence.

      Who is eligible to register?
Students who plan to attend HCCC and have placed into Basic Reading/Writing, Basic Math, or Basic Algebra can register for the program.

Accelerated Programs for Basic Reading/Writing, Basic Math, and Basic Algebra

      Why Accelerated Programs?
These classes are designed to save time and money with free prep courses in for Basic Reading/Writing, Basic Math, and Basic Algebra. Attending these classes will familiarize students with the HCCC campus, help review basic skills, and build confidence. After successfully completing the program, students may retake the Accuplacer test and possibly place into a higher level course.

      Who is eligible to register?
These classes are for NEW prospective students wishing to refresh their basic skills and improve their Accuplacer scores. They are for students who are motivated, hard-working, and able to commit to attending all sessions throughout the program. The requirements vary by course, so please contact Patrizia Barroero, the Transitional Program Coordinator, for more information.

      Summer and Winter Enrichment Programs

T.O.P. offers Enrichment Programs for all levels of ESL, Basic Reading/Basic Writing, Basic Mathematics, and Basic Algebra, with select offerings during the winter intersession. These programs are offered to current students who took the course the previous semester and did not pass. The requirements vary by course, so please contact Patrizia Barroero, the Transitional Program Coordinator, for more information.
