Applicants who wish to transfer credits from a U.S. college or university to HCCC may be granted up to 30 credits toward an associate degree, and 15 credits toward a certificate, for courses completed with a grade of 'C' or better at a U.S. accredited institution. Generally, the College will accept credits only for courses required for the student's degree at HCCC that is equal in content and credit hours to coursework at HCCC, that were taken within five years prior to the student's first semester at HCCC. However, for certain courses restrictions apply. Math courses taken more than five years prior to the student's first semester at HCCC will not be accepted and the student will need to take the College Placement Test. English courses taken more than 10 years prior to the student's first semester may be accepted upon successful completion of the writing proficiency test. For other specified courses, age limits (of five or ten years) have been set. The granting of credits for such courses will be determined by the Transcript Coordinator and/or the Division Dean or Program Director to determine currency of knowledge. The list of age-restricted courses and requirements for granting credits is available in the Office of Enrollment Services, the Registrar's Office, and the Office of the Division Dean or Program Director. For courses that do not have a time restricted age limit and were taken more than five to ten years prior to the student's first semester at HCCC, the College will accept a maximum of 15 credits. HCCC reserves the right to deny inappropriate credit requests. Students are encouraged to apply for transfer credits within two semesters of enrollment at HCCC. Acceptance of transfer credits may exempt students from repeating certain courses, but in order to graduate, students must complete a minimum of 30 credits at HCCC, 12 of which must be major specific courses approved by the College. Students enrolled elsewhere who wish to attend HCCC must present a letter of permission from their college in order to register.
