Ara Karakashian, who is also known on campus as “Mr. K,” began his career at Hudson County Community College in 2007 as an Adjunct Instructor. In 2008, he stepped away from his entrepreneurial career in the hospitality industry and became a full-time member of the HCCC staff. In addition to teaching directed study courses related to Food Service Sanitation, Food/Beverage/Labor Cost Controls, Restaurant Management, and Entrepreneurship, he provides training and mentoring to the Externship III students who prepare and serve for the HCCC Foundation Subscription Dining Series on Fridays. He was instrumental in developing and implementing curriculum for three new degree options in Hospitality Management.
Mr. Karakashian is Chair of the All College Council Governance structure at the College. Having held prior titles as Vice Chair of the Steering Committee and Chair/Secretary of the Technology Committee, he has played a very active role in the continued success of its four-year existence. Mr. Karakashian is also the recording secretary of the Curriculum & Instruction Committee, having been since 2012. He is also a member of the Online Course Review Committee for the Center for Online Learning (COL). In previous years, he has been actively involved in the Task Force on College Completion and Mission Review Committee.
Having earned his Master of Business Administration in Hospitality Administration from the famed Johnson & Wales University, Mr. K is presently working toward his doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at Rowan University. He is a member of the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, & Institutional Education (ICHRIE) and the National Association for Community Colleges Entrepreneurship (NACCE).
Mr. K and his wife welcomed a baby boy to their family this year.
